Googleās New Model Topped GPT-6 and Claude on Real Work
Google had a quiet 2026. A scrapped model, months of only Flash releases, questions about whether it was falling behind. Gemini 4 Argon is its answer.
Launched September 30 and rolling out to vetted cybersecurity teams, hereās what the numbers say:
77.9% on DeepSWE - leads every frontier model on real-world software engineering
#1 on Vals Index - tops finance, legal, and tax work weighted by economic impact
91.7% on LVBench - best in class on long video understanding
1 million output tokens - up from 64K, meaning far deeper reasoning in one pass
2/10 per million tokens - rising to 4/20 after the promo period
Inside Google, itās already freed 300 TiB of server memory by finding optimizations across data centers on its own.
Bloombergās sources say Argon tests well but falls short in real work. Google rejected the claim. The wider rollout will settle it.
