Meta and Apple team up to bring powerful AI to your desk
Meta has released Muse Spark Open, its most powerful downloadable AI model yet.
And thereās an unexpected partner behind it: Apple.
The two companies worked together to make the model run locally on two Mac Studios powered by Appleās M5 Ultra chips.
That means developers can run advanced AI without sending every request to a cloud server.
Hereās what Meta packed into it:
816 billion parameters, with 42 billion active at a time.
1 million tokens of context, enough to work with huge documents and codebases.
Text, image, audio, and video support in a single model.
Advanced coding skills for complex, multi-step tasks.
Meta calls it the most capable US-developed open-weight model. That means developers can download and customize it, subject to Metaās license.
And it isnāt limited to answering questions.
Meta demonstrated the AI fixing bugs in an iOS app and editing videos in DaVinci Resolve, all on local hardware.
For companies handling sensitive data, keeping powerful AI on their own machines could be a big deal.
But thereās a barrier. Running this model locally requires two expensive Mac Studios, and its license comes with restrictions.

As AI models get better, the hardware we use may matter more than ever.
A few years ago, buying a laptop was mostly about speed, storage, and battery life. Soon, how well it runs AI could be part of that decision too.
Until next Friday.
